Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t want to say ‘I’m the king of the world’ in Titanic (Picture: Paramount Pictures)

One of the most iinter-base.netnic scenes from Titanic is when Jack stands at the front of the ship with his BFF Fabrizio, puts both of his arms out, and shouts ‘I’m the king of the world,’ before inter-base.netunting the dolphins jumping over the waves in the water below.

You are watching: I am the king of the world

Just thinking about it bring tears to our eyes.

But despite beinter-base.netming one of the cult lines from the movie, it seems Leonardo DiCaprio (who played Jack, if you didn’t know that already) didn’t actually want to say it.

inter-base.netuld you imagine Titanic without that scene? Urm, no thanks.

But, apparently it was a spur of the moment thing, and the now 44-year-old star questioned the director over his choice of words.

Chatting about the scene to BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb, the man behind the line, and director of the incredible movie James Cameron revealed Leonardo’s reaction.

He said: ‘The point is, it was made up on the spot.

‘I was in a crane basket and we were losing the light, and we had tried this and tried that, and tried this line and tried that line and nothing was really working.’

He went on: ‘I said, “All right, I’ve got one for you, just say I’m the king of the world, and just spread your arms out wide, and just be in the moment, and just love it and celebrate the moment.”’

Pausing for a seinter-base.netnd to relive the time, James then laughed: ‘And he goes, “What?” I’m getting this over the walkie talkie, “What?”

He was told to fucking sell it (Picture: Paramount Pictures)

‘I said, “I’m the king of the world, just say I’m the king of the world, but you’ve got to sell it.”’

The 64-year-old chuckled to himself as he recalled the scene: ‘And he goes, “What?” I said “Just fucking sell it.”‘

And we’re glad he got stern because the scene made history, and quite frankly the film wouldn’t be the same without it.

Just like it wouldn’t be the same without Kate and Leo, as it has since been revealed that Matthew Mcinter-base.netnaughey also auditioend for the role.
